Coleraine is situated in a beautiful valley on the banks of Bryan's Creek, 35 kilometres west of Hamilton. Coleraine ahs a population of around 1,200 people. Coleraine’s surrounding landscape was the inspiration for poet Adam Lindsay Gordon's book 'The Fields of Coleraine'. Visitors with a sweet tooth can sample delights at the Glenelg Fine Confectionary, a family-owned business renowned for its tasty chocolate delights.
The Peter Francis Points Arboretum, better know as 'The Points' is located on the hills overlooking Coleraine. 'The Points', is a 37ha native Australian plant collection and is recognised as the most extensive collection of Eucalyptus species in the Southern Hemisphere, boasting over 12,000 native plants, including 63 rare and endangered native species.
Designed to complement 'The Points', The Eucalypt Discovery Centre is located in Whyte St. Entry is free to both. The Eucalypt Discovery Centre is open Monday to Thursday, 9.00am - 5.00pm; Friday, 9.00am - 4:30pm; Saturday 10.00am - 4:00pm, and Sunday and Public Holidays 11.00am - 4:00pm.
